TAM Tony Hong Wing Visits Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Professor TAM Tony Hong Wing, Dean of the Department of Sociology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong paid a visit to the BJUT Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on the afternoon of September 4, 2023. Tang Jun, Dean and Chen Feng, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Li Sheng, Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Xing Yuzhou, Dean of the College of Social Work, Li Junfu and Song Chenting, Deputy Deans of the College of Social Sciences, Gao Haiyan, a faculty member of the College of Social Sciences, and relevant personnel from the Office of Foreign Exchange and the Office of Cooperation and Information Technology Construction attended the symposium and had fruitful discussions on the cooperation possibilities between the two sides.

At the meeting, Professor Tang Jun extended a warm welcome to Professor TAM Tony Hong Wing's arrival. Tang reviewed his visit to Department of Sociology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong twelve years ago, while extend his hope that Professor Tony’s visit would serve as a new opportunity for maintaining the friendship between the two sides, while expanding collaboration in major construction, disciplinary development, scientific research, and other fields.

During the talks, Professor Tang Jun, Professor Chen Feng, Professor Li Sheng, Associate Professor Xing Yuzhou, Professor Li Junfu, and Associate Professor Song Chenting provided a detailed introduction to the development status, opportunities, and challenges of sociology as a discipline in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from the perspectives of historical evolution, disciplinary construction, major development, scientific research, education and teaching, and student cultivation. Professor TAM Tony Hong Wing introduced the construction of the sociology discipline at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a focus on the innovative measures and positive results of the Computational Social Sciences Laboratory of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in terms of initiation, enrollment, scientific research, and teaching. He believed that the sociology discipline of the BJUT Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences boasts a young team with scale and cohesion, advantages that complement science, engineering, literature and laws, and the affiliation to the university under direct governance of Beijing, which is conducive to forming a scale development effect through interdisciplinary collaboration, and to exploring cutting-edge research topics of remarkable realistic value.

Finally, both sides further discussed issues such as faculty member exchange, student cultivation, and disciplinary development, hoping to promote communication between teaching and research personnel and students through information interconnection and talent exchange via multiple channels, and create more opportunities for cooperation.
