Introduction to Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of BJUT is composed of eight teaching and research departments, i.e., the College of Social Sciences, College of Social Work, College of Law, College of Foreign Language, Undergraduate English Teaching Department, Graduate Public English Teaching Department, Institute of Higher Education, Beijing Intellectual Property Institute (Beijing Intellectual Property Research Institute) and eight Party and government administrative departments , i.e., CPC Committee office, Comprehensive Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, Discipline Construction and Postgraduate Training Office, Scientific Research and Base Management Office, Office of Foreign Exchange, Cooperation and Information Technology Construction, Student Affairs Office and Youth League Committee.

The Faculty has also set up deliberation and coordination institutions such as Talent Work Leading Group, Discipline Construction Leading Group, Academic Sub-committee, Degree Evaluation Sub-committee, Teaching Steering Committee, Science and Technology Ethics Committee, Teacher’s Ethics Construction Sub-committee and Academic Senate.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has four undergraduate specialties including Sociology, Social Work, Law and English, and Sociology has been selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate specialty programs; three first-class discipline master's degree programs in sociology, pedagogy and foreign language and literature, and three professional master's degree programs in social work, education and law. In addition, relying on the College of Economics and Management, the Faculty has built a professional master's degree program in public administration and trained doctoral students and postdoctoral faculty members in the direction of social management engineering; Sociology and Higher Education Pedagogy are key construction disciplines in Beijing.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has three provincial and ministerial scientific research bases: Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Research Base - Beijing Social Governance Research Center and Capital Engineering Education Development Research Base, and the Collaborative Innovation Center in "2011 Plan” of Beijing Municipal Education Commission - Collaborative Innovation Center for Capital Social Construction and Social Management; two provincial and ministerial academic innovation teams: the "Capital Social Construction Research" team in the Talents Improving Education Program of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the "Local University Teaching Reform Research" team; six integrated platforms for government-industry-university-research-user cooperation which have been built in cooperation with the Party and government departments and scientific research departments in Beijing, such as Beijing Institute of Social Construction (jointly established with the Social Work Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2009), Contemporary China Public Complaint and Social Governance Research Center (jointly established with Beijing Public Complaint and Contradiction Analysis Research Center in 2011), Capital Higher Engineering Education Research Center (jointly established with Beijing Municipal Education Commission in 2011), Beijing Social Organization Research Center for Disabled Persons (jointly established with Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation in 2012), Capital Education Integrity Research Center (jointly established with Beijing Municipal Education Discipline Inspection Committee in 2013) and Beijing Intellectual Property Institute (jointly established with Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office in 2014).

The Faculty has 202 faculty members, including 176 teachers, 21 managers (including two in appointment system) and 5 other specialized technicians. Among the faculty, there are 15 senior titles, 59 deputy senior titles, 102 intermediate titles, 72 internal supervisors and 23 external supervisors. There are 988 students, consisting of 654 undergraduates and 334 postgraduates, including 128 part-time postgraduates.
