College English Teaching Department Holds a Lecture on “Highlights and Methods of Language Service Researches”

On the morning of March 24, Professor Wang Lifei, a doctoral supervisor, postdoctoral collaborating mentor, president of the International Language Service Research Institute, expert of the National Language Service Export Base, and head of the International Language Service Discipline of Beijing Language and Culture University, visited the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on invitation. An Zhefeng, Secretary of the Faculty’s CPC Committee, Chen Hao, Deputy Dean, Ma Xiaomei, Deputy Dean, and relevant leaders of the College English Teaching Departmenthad discussions with Professor Wang on such issues as interdisciplinary construction, talent cultivation, and language research serviing the society.

Professor Wang Lifei gave a lecture on the “Highlights and Methods of Language Service Researches”, which was hosted by Chen Hao and attended by more than 40 teachers and students from the College English Teaching Department and the major of foreign languages and literature.

Professor Wang gave a detailed introduction to the current situation of language services both domestically and internationally,and explained the necessity of language service research and the nation’s relevant policies for supporting language service research based on a large amount of data. He also expounded the methods and highlights of language service researches. Finally, Professor Wang proposed five suggestions for language service research. He believes that future research should focus on how to optimize the international language service environment in free trade zones, strengthen the assessment of language service environment management, establish language service industry funds, formulate language service quality standards, and create language service data facilities. The lecture, starting from a perspective of interdisciplinary research, is profound, insightful, and of immense guiding significance, which has aroused the attention of teachers and students present on language service research and practice. It has effectively inspired the teachers and students of the Faculty to gain a better understanding of language service research and keep up with future research trends.

This lecture is part of the Professional Ability Enhancement Program for the foreign language faculty members of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Thanks to the strong support of the BJUT faculty members, the leaders of the Faculty attach great importance to continuously promoting the improvement of the teaching and research abilities of foreign language faculty members through annual lectures and diverse support methods, striving for both developing the faculty members’ professional capabilities and cultivating high-end talents.
